Quick story. The song "My Favorite Things" was "my" song for choir camp one summer. I might've been 10 or 12, I don't recall. The whole point is that after a week or two of "camp" you sing a (memorized) solo in a performance for friends and family. I was always in choir, I could read music well but I was never a soloist. I didn't enjoy it. But I did it for years.
Anyway, night of the performance I get on stage to sing this Sound of Music classic, I whisper/sing out the first verse and then completely blank. I forgot every word. You can't fake it, you can't walk off stage. I just squinted my eyes in the lights, looked at my instructor playing the piano down in front of me and tried my hardest to read her lips and sing. So I was always half a note behind, the second syllable of each word always being stronger than the first. It never came back to me. I just swam through it. Hated the song ever since.
That's not even why I'm blogging. I just fond a site that's one of my favorite things and thought I'd share some of my favorites (Oprah style):
- If you haven't already, sign onto this site, register, and start canceling all the catalogs that you don't want to receive any more. It helps to have the mag with you so you can enter your account number (often near your printed address) but it's not necessary. Help lighten your mailbox and "go green" at the same time: Catalog Choice
- Small gifts. I think hostess gifts and "guest" gifts are adorable and so thoughtful. It's not much, it's just a little gift for someone who's staying over or someone that's hosting the party but it's such a treat. After our holiday party it was so nice to have a new bottle of wine to try or ornament to hang and remember friends that stopped by...
- Frasier the television show. This might actually be my favorite "thing". So witty, I love Frasier and especially Niles. I can't get enough. I prefer to believe that it's all real so please don't ruin my guilty pleasure or refer to "actors" in the series. I even know that Frasier spells "favorite" with a "u" - "favourite". So he's my "favourite".
Time to go. Derrick and I are watching "March of the Penguins". Amazing footage. And now the baby penguins have been born... A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E
