I used to enjoy reading and collecting famous quotes that "spoke" to me in some way. Sometimes other people's well-put words make me think about my environment, about people, about life, anything in a different light. I love it when a spoken idea, feeling, or message is succinct and powerful.
I remembered this tonight as I was trying to clean out some old folders and keepsakes and came across the poem Desiderata by Max Ehrmann. On most days, especially a day like I've had today, I don't take the time to sit and think, pray, or ponder anything. I'm too consumed with my to-do list, making plans, reading articles, cooking, house issues, working out, talking too much.... anything.
So I thought I'd take a break and read the Desiderata poem. I also wanted to browse quotes and was looking for one by Cousteau, which I saw on a Food TV show the other day. Instead, I ran across a link to "Tom Cruise" quotes and I couldn't resist. Let's see what Tom has to say:
"I didn't become an actor to have power, but it just happens that I have it and so I have a lot of opportunities."
- Tom Cruise
"It's well known I'm a Scientologist, and that has helped me to find that inner peace in my life and it's something that has given me great stability and tools that I use."
- Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise and I were friends until he insulted the field of psychology and then argued with my favorite morning man Matt Lauer.
Now a more inspiring message from a better "Tom," my BFF Tom Hanks:
"If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. It's the hard that makes it great. "
- Tom Hanks
Take that one with you.
