I like clipping coupons, even when I don't use them. It's like a kid with safety scissors and construction paper. You get all your supplies out - newspaper, magazines, computer print outs, your scissors - and clip the dotted edges.
Then you organize. Those groceries you typically pick up anyway and those items you'd actually have to think about and seek out at the store. These are usually the ones that end up in the garbage, but I'll get a good find now and then.
My curiosity bug also gets the best of me and I order "free samples" from time to time. I stick to trustworthy sources so I avoid junk mail chains. Here are a few great finds:
Kraft.com - I subscribe to the weekly newsletter and it's an easy, quick read. The recipes are always easy and the ingredient list is always short (Kraft brands of course). I know from reading the recipe if I'll like it or not, nothing fancy but it's great for ideas. Also, at the end of the email there are "additional" goodies like Super Bowl recipes or free samples. Today I got two free boxes (6 packages each) of Oreo and Chips Ahoy Candy 100-calorie packs. Fun treat!
Shortcuts.com - When this site is up and running I think it'll be a favorite. Soon, they'll be releasing a card you carry just like most discount cards, but it's better... From what I understand, you go online and just click the coupons you want and they're linked to your card. So, no more carrying paper coupons. Just this card with your self-selected discounts. How high-tech will we feel?! We don't even have to touch paper.
Entertainment.com - Blogged about this before. Still a great deal, just a matter of making yourself use it!
Coolsavings.com - The coupons are easy to browse, click and print. There were several items on this site that I get on a regular basis.
Takes a little time, but a litte bit can help save a lot. And I'm all about saving on groceries so I can spend more on travel. And clothes. And dates with my hubby.
